There Are Many Ways to Make a Difference
EWBM is built by people who choose to give something — their time, their skills, their ideas, their resources or their support. Whether you want to get your hands dirty on a project, take on the responsibility of becoming an EWBM member, or help fund the work we do, there is a way for you to contribute.
You don’t have to be an engineer. You just have to be willing to help engineer a better future.
Volunteer
Give Your Time. Share Your Skills. Make a Difference.
Volunteering is one of the best ways to experience what Engineers Without Borders Malaysia is all about. Our projects bring together people from different backgrounds — engineers, students, professionals, academics and community members — to work alongside communities and turn ideas into practical action. You don’t need to be an engineer or have a particular set of technical skills to contribute. We value people who are willing to learn, listen and get involved.
When projects are running, we invite people from our volunteer network to join us based on their availability, interests and skills. Most project activities take place over weekends, while some projects may involve longer, week-long field trips. This gives volunteers the opportunity to step outside their usual environment, work directly with communities and gain a firsthand understanding of the challenges we are trying to address.
Volunteering is also a way to discover where you might fit within EWBM. You may find yourself contributing technical knowledge, helping with logistics, documenting a project, supporting community engagement, organising activities — or simply lending a hand where it is needed.
Stay Connected
The easiest way to hear about upcoming opportunities is to join our mailing list HERE. We may also invite volunteers to our WhatsApp groups and social media channels so that you can stay connected with projects, activities and opportunities to get involved.
You can also follow us and learn more about EWBM through:
You can also reach out directly to our EWBM Branches and Chapters HERE.
Start by volunteering. Come along, meet the community, see how we work and find out where you can make a difference.
Your time matters. Your skills matter. And sometimes, simply being willing to show up matters most.

From Volunteer to Member
Membership in EWBM is more than putting your name on a list. We believe that becoming a member should come with an understanding of who we are, how we work and what we stand for. That’s why we encourage prospective members to first experience EWBM through volunteering — ideally by contributing with us for around a year or participating in two or three projects.
This gives you the opportunity to experience our culture, work alongside our people, understand the communities we support and decide whether EWBM is something you want to commit to more deeply.
Membership Means Responsibility
Our members are part of the people who help EWBM move from ideas to action. Membership can mean taking on greater responsibility within projects and the organisation — from helping to develop a project concept, coordinating teams and working with partners, to seeing a project through from planning and design to implementation, evaluation and close-out. In other words, our members don’t just participate — they take ownership.
We are constantly on the lookout for members who are prepared to contribute their time, skills and ideas, support others and help carry projects from beginning to end.
Student Chapters: Another Path In
For students, there is another way to become part of the EWBM community. Our student chapters provide an opportunity to get involved with EWBM while studying, working alongside fellow students on activities, projects and community initiatives. Students who join through a recognised EWBM student chapter can also be inducted as EWBM members.
More importantly, that membership doesn’t have to end when university does. As you graduate, you can continue your journey with EWBM as part of our wider professional and volunteer community — bringing the experience, relationships and perspective you developed as a student into the next stage of your life.
Is Membership Right for You?
If you’ve volunteered with us, understand our approach and want to take on a greater role in making things happen, membership may be the next step. Volunteer first. Experience EWBM. Then, if you want to take greater ownership, join us as a member.
Membership is about commitment, responsibility and helping to shape the organisation — not simply belonging to it.
VOLUNTEER → GET INVOLVED → TAKE RESPONSIBILITY → BECOME A MEMBER
STUDENT CHAPTER → EWBM MEMBER → GRADUATE → CONTINUE WITH EWBM
Support Us
Help Us Turn Ideas Into Action
Good ideas need people, time and resources to become real solutions. EWBM is a non-profit organisation, and our ability to work with communities depends on the support of people and organisations who believe in what we are trying to achieve. We are always looking for donations, sponsorships, grants and long-term partners who can help us fund projects and maintain the secretariat and resources needed to keep the organisation operating.
Your support helps us do more than fund a single project. It helps create the capacity for EWBM to identify community needs, develop appropriate solutions, train and involve volunteers, work with partners, deliver projects and continue supporting communities over the longer term.
Support a Project
We also welcome in-kind contributions and material sponsorships. Many of our projects require practical equipment and materials such as pipes & fittings, water tanks, pumps, water filters & treatment equipment, solar panels & related equipment, electrical & engineering componenets, as well as tools & project equipment.
If your organisation can provide materials, equipment, technical services or professional expertise, we’d be very happy to discuss how your contribution could support an EWBM project.
Partner With Us
For organisations looking to make a longer-term contribution, we welcome corporate sponsorships, grants and strategic partnerships. Long-term support helps EWBM build the organisational capacity to do more — allowing us to plan projects properly, develop our people, maintain our secretariat and respond when communities need assistance.
We can work with partners to identify opportunities that align with their CSR, ESG, sustainability and community-development objectives, while ensuring that support remains focused on meaningful community outcomes.
